If you are looking for fence installation, fence repair, or fence maintenance in the area then it is important to know that there are many factors that go into determining how much fences cost.

You may think that all fences cost the same amount of money but this isn’t actually the case. The price of a fence will depend on size, material type, and location – just to name a few. This article will cover some of these key points so you can make an informed decision when it comes time to hire someone for your fence needs!

Material costs of a fence

One of the biggest costs that go into building a fence is the wood, metal, and/or vinyl boards! This is especially true for fence installation. If you are having a wood or metal fence installed then it is important to know that the different types of woods and metals will affect the price – so not all fence materials cost the same amount of money!

For example, redwood fencing tends to be more expensive than cedar because less availability lowers supply which drives up demand. Similarly, metal fence prices are also affected by supply and demand – making it so that the fewer available metals in the market drive up price!

So if you want to know why fences cost so much then just remember that there are many factors involved including the material costs of a fence!

That said, just the mass amount of wood that is needed to have a completed fence is quite high, and makes a huge portion of that quoted price that you see.

Labor costs for workers to install

Another huge cost that goes into building a fence is the labor cost itself! This cost can be extremely variable based on fence type, fence company, and even the time of year!

Generally speaking, however, you can expect to pay anywhere from $25-$50 per hour for labor. This cost can really add up if you have a large fence installation project – so it’s important to factor this into your budget!

Location, Location, Location!

In addition to fence installation cost, location will play a large role in how much fences cost! This is because fence companies have different overhead costs depending on where they are located.

For example, a fence company in a rural area is going to have significantly less overhead costs than one in a major city. The fence company in a major city will have to pay more for rent, advertising, and equipment – all of which affect the final price of your fence!

Transportation of workers to the job site

You may not realize this, however, you are paying for workers to be transported to your site! If you are close by the business that you are working with, they can charge less. However, if you are working with a company from the town over to build your fence, you should be accounting for paying more to have that same job done.

Because of this, I highly recommend pricing out your most local companies first to see if they can get you a discount due to how close you are to their company.

Equipment costs to do the job right

Last, but not least, fence companies have to pay for the equipment that is necessary to do the job! This cost can be things like ladders, saws, trucks, and more! Fence companies have to factor in the cost of this equipment when quoting you a price for fence installation.

The company needs to make money (margin)

All of these costs that I have mentioned go into the fence company’s cost for installing your fence. When you see a quote, the fence company needs to make a margin on top of all the costs that I mentioned.

Conclusion

Fences cost so much because fence companies need to be able to pay for the costs of materials, labor, and equipment. By understanding a few key points about what goes into fence installation cost, you can be more informed when you are getting quotes for your fence!

So there you have it! Some of the key reasons why fences cost so much! Keep these things in mind when budgeting.
